2014 / The Year In Review
During 2014, we’ve developed and delivered presentations on four different topics to bring the principles of Bioenergetics to local communities, including:
An Overview of Bioenergetics
Pleasure, Anxiety, and the Duality of Sex
The Bio-energetics of a Healthy Society (Read the full paper)
The Science of Subjectivity
Frederic Lowen delivered these presentations at the Lowen Summer Festival in Russia, the European Association for Body Psychotherapy Congress in Portugal, the IPSO "Be Happy" Conference in Italy, and at the 3Bios Conference and a training group of the Lumen Institute in Brazil. Preview of these presentations will be available on our website soon.
New Website and Online Store
The Foundation's new website was launched in April 2014, enabling us to communicate better, become a resource center for people from around the world, and offer an online store that makes the Lowen books and DVDs more easily accessible.
The new website also features:
Expanded media section
Education section with articles, research papers, and more.
A community resources section with events calendar, discussion boards, and worldwide links.
We welcome volunteer help and are always open to you feedback and suggestions as we grow and expand the site. Contact us with your thoughts and feelings.
Lectures & Presentations
During 2014 the Alexander Lowen Foundation has seen significant developments in many aspects of its mission purpose.
The Lowen Residence
Following the fire at the residence of Alexander Lowen, M.D. in New Canaan, CT back in January 2011, reconstruction has finally begun this year.
The house was home to Dr. Lowen and his family, and the place where Dr. Lowen developed Bioenergetic Analysis through his practice there of more than 50 years.
The reconstruction effort has the purpose of restoring Lowen's office and clinic where the original center for Bioenergetics and Bioenergetic Analysis was housed.
Wilhelm Reich Documentary
Joining forces with The Wilhelm Reich Infant Trust, we supported their successful Kickstarter campaign to fund a factually accurate documentary in the most far-reaching effort today to correct the distortions about Wilhelm Reich for future generations.
As part of the fundraising effort, Frederic Lowen interviewed filmmaker Kevin Hinchey about the forthcoming film, the history, and relevance of Reich's work today.
To be produced by film directors, not psychotherapists, it will tell the story of Reich the man and scientist, not the caricature of the "mad psychiatrist" that attracts attention. Although he had only the interest of humanity in mind, he was excluded, persecuted, and had many ideas and insights stolen before an early death in prison in America. This feature length documentary on Reich will be based on all archival material available; much of it available only recently.
Publishing of the Lowen works continued to expand in 2014 with new editions in French and Russian. In Russia, publishing house Veligor has published new editions of The Voice of the Body, Depression and the Body, and The Spritiuality of the Body in Russian.
In France, Éditions Enrick B. is publishing new editions of Bioenergetics, The Way to Vibrant Health, and The Language of the Body in French.
Following the donation of a large collection of historical material from the International Institute for Bioenergetic Analysis (IIBA) in 2013, the Foundation began the exhaustive process of sorting and organizing the collection. We need strong community support in processing the large amount of video, audio, and photographs.
The conversion, digitization, and editing is expensive both in time and money. Visit our Media section to watch and listen to our already released clips. The more help we receive the more quickly this material will be available to the body-psychotherapy community and to the general public. To contribute or volunteer please visit our donations page or contact us.
With our eyes and hearts to the future, we thank all of you who continue to support the Foundation and look forward to more vibrant growth in 2015.
