The Bioenergetics of Dysfunctional Society

Frederic Lowen presented The Bioenergetics of Dysfunctional Society at the 15th Congress for Body Psychotherapy (EABP) in Athens, Greece as well as during a workshop with the SIBIG group in Milan, Italy in October, 2016. 

 

Fred discussed the dysfunction in today’s society as prevalent nearly everywhere and affects us all. Energetically, this dysfunction is a reflection of the dysfunction we see as psychotherapists in our patients. Asserting a paradigm shift, this presentation focuses on viewing the ills of society in energetic terms rather than in socio-economic-political terms.

 

Drawing from the work of Sigmund Freud, Wilhelm Reich, and his father, Alexander Lowen, M.D., Fred examines Reich's Mass Psychology of Fascism in the context of the 21st Century, and explores the energetic and characterological parallels in society and individuals.

 

This presentation was sequential to, but separate from Fred’s presentation at the 2014 EABP Congress in Lisbon, Portugal: The Bioenergetics of a Healthy Society.

 

In addition, Fred also presented "An Evening with Frederic Lowen" to the SIBIG group in Milan, which gave the participants an opportunity to get a personal glimpse into what it was like growing up with Alexander Lowen, M.D. and Bioenergetics.
