About the Foundation

Our Story

The Alexander Lowen Foundation (TALF) is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) foundation with the purpose of continuing and furthering the legacy of Alexander Lowen M.D.

In the spring of 2007, TALF was created by Frederic Lowen, son of Dr. Lowen and a small group of friends and colleagues. It has since became a resource center for students, practitioners, teachers, and interested individuals who seek to learn about Dr. Lowen and Bioenergetics, and to discover ways to integrate body-psychotherapy into their lives.

Dr. Lowen’s passion to heal the mind-body split has inspired TALF to create and nurture various projects, including:

  • Publishing and growing the availability of Dr. Lowen’s books in print and as eBooks in over 15 languages.

  • Archiving Dr. Lowen’s published and unpublished writings, personal files, photos, audio and video recordings from over 60 years of his clinical work.

  • Collaborating in experiential body-oriented workshops with groups and organizations worldwide.

  • Creating, sponsoring, and highlighting research, events, and publications for and by local and international body-psychotherapy communities.

TALF aims to encourage the exchange of ideas motivated by Dr. Lowen's books, workshops, lectures, and life. As a Foundation, we seek to effectively bring body-psychotherapy into the lives of many more people. This scope of our vision also features explorations into mind-body unity and health, and the connectedness and importance of being grounded in our environment.

Over the past decade, we have seen the interest in Dr. Lowen and his work grow stronger than it has been in many years. TALF is able to be a part of this resurgence thanks to contributions by those who appreciate and value Dr. Lowen’s work, his influence in the field of psychotherapy and the impact he continues to have in people's lives.

TALF is now expanding its mission to reach the worldwide body-psychotherapy community and advance Dr. Lowen’s contributions to psychotherapeutic practice into mainstream health-practices and the consciousness of the world.
